Guyana’s Briton John finished sixth in the Elite category, and Aaron Newton placed fifth among the Under-23 riders in Saturday’s individual time trial at the Caribbean Cycling Union (CCU) Elite and Under-23 Championships in the Dominican Republic.

John completed the course in 46 minutes, 31.001 seconds, while Newton recorded 49 minutes, 9.792 seconds. Their performances opened Guyana’s campaign ahead of Sunday’s road race, when all five members of the national team will compete.
Ajani Cutting, Segun Hubbard and Andre Greene will join John and Newton for the road race today.
Bermuda’s Kaden Luke Hopkins won the elite time trial in 42 minutes, 3.239 seconds. His compatriot Nicholas Narraway took second in 43 minutes, 1.017 seconds, narrowly ahead of Puerto Rico’s Christopher Morales Fontán, who finished in 43 minutes, 1.956 seconds.
John finished 4 minutes, 27.762 seconds behind Hopkins, while Newton secured fifth place among the 11 Under-23 finishers.
Newton’s performance follows his silver medal in the Under-23 time trial at last year’s Caribbean Championships in Belize.

Guyana will enter Sunday’s road race with its reigning national Elite road-race champion, John, and national Under-23 road-race champion, Cutting, among its representatives.
The five-man squad was finalised after the CCU ruled that Guyana could not use vacant female places to accommodate additional male cyclists. The Guyana Cycling Federation had initially identified nine men, but the country’s allocation provided for five male and five female competitors.
