Akilah Sekai Jones in the Girls’ category and Vadeanand Resaul in the Boys’ category are the respective champions of the Sheltez/Homesafe Security Independence Cup Under-12 Tennis Tournament.
On Sunday, the final day of action in the tournament — played at the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry’s (GBTI’s) Recreational Facility — Jones upstaged Kaeny de Mess of Suriname 5-3, 4-1 to claim the top accolade; and Resaul proved superior to Jeremiah Kalekyezi in a match that ended 5-3, 4-1.

Victories for the Guyanese duo brought an end to the international segment of the tournament, which commenced last Friday.
All the top performers were rewarded yesterday at a simple ceremony subsequent to the end of the event.

Here is a list of the tournament’s winners: Afruica Gentle, Girls’ Under-18 champion; Sarah Klautky, Girls’ U-14 champion; Akilah Sekai Jones, Girls’ U-14 champion; Joshua Kalekyezi, Boys’ U-18 and U14 champion; and Vadeanand Resaul, Boys’ U-12 champion.
