Joseph confident in UG Trojans’ performance

The current outbreak of the coronavirus and tensions emanating from the March 2, 2020 General and Regional Elections have had the effect of halting all action in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s 2019/2020 season.

However, coach of the UG Trojans, Kenroy Joseph, believes that whenever the season restarts, his side would turn in some extraordinary performances.
Saying he has thus far enjoyed the season, even though it came to an abrupt halt, Joseph told this publication when asked what was most memorable about it: “Well, we have only played four games so far for the season, but for me the high point would be coming from 96-8 to 263 all out against GDF in the ‘second division’ 40-over competition. This was led by the experienced Damion Vantull, who scored 131 runs. “We were then able to bowl GDF out for 174. So, it was an excellent performance from the team, because we were down and out at one point of the game.”
In a previous interview with this publication, Joseph had said that the ‘1st division’ squad had been boosted by the inclusion of Jaguars’ pacer Nial Smith and former regional U19 player Kevin Umroa.
Asked what the inclusion of these two players would do for the squad, Joseph had responded, “Well, as you know, our bowling in ‘1st division’ has not been penetrating enough. But with the addition of Smith, the comfort will be given to our batsmen to be able to concentrate. Ershad Ali and Damion Vantull can now focus on taking the team to mammoth totals. They would no longer have to feel that pressure of having to focus on their bowling because we aren’t picking up wickets.”
Joseph also mentioned that Umroa would be able to boost the spin bowling attack, thus giving the Trojans a penetrating bowling attack, with Smith steaming in at one end and Umroa turning things up at the other. Joseph described the season as ordinary thus far, but said he expects a revitalized Trojans unit when cricket resumes.
