Juvenile slapped with murder of female security officer

A teenager was on Friday last arraigned for the murder of 68-year-old Margarett Dawnson whose partially nude body was found in the Le Repentir Cemetery, Georgetown.

Dead: Margarett Dawnson

The teen appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and was not required to plea to the indictable charge which stated that on May 18, 2020, he murdered Margarett Dawnson.
However, another teenager along with the taxi driver who was arrested in connection with the woman’s death have since been released but the 22-year-old prime suspect remains in custody.
The suspect, a young man of Albouystown, Georgetown, who is a known character to the police, was shot on Thursday last.
It was reported that upon receiving information that the suspect was at the Stabroek Market Area, the police swooped down on the location.
Whilst there, a confrontation between the suspect and the police ensued, during which, he whipped out a knife and attempted to stab one of the police officers. In retaliation, the police discharged a round, hitting the murder accused to his left side leg. He was picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted in a stable condition.
The 68-year-old woman, a security officer attached to the Professional Guard Service (PGS) of Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD), left home last Sunday evening for work but her body was found lying between two tombs in the cemetery.
The teenager was remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance on June 25.
