…40 persons employed
KFC Guyana has opened its first outlet in Berbice, investing hundreds of millions of dollars in a new facility at D’Edward, West Berbice, providing jobs for 40 employees as it brings the company’s nationwide restaurant network to 13 outlets.
The D’Edward opening marks KFC Guyana’s entry into Berbice, establishing a new source of employment and commercial activity in West Berbice as the company prepares to extend its operations farther east.
The fast-food restaurant was officially opened Sunday, November 1, as the company outlined plans to establish a 14th outlet before the end of 2026, and expand further into East Berbice before the end of 2027.

Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Beharry Group of Companies, Suresh Beharry, explained that the decision to establish the restaurant in West Berbice followed a pattern the company had observed among customers at its existing outlets.
“First of all, the passion of Berbicians for our brand. And that is aptly demonstrated. When you look at holidays, when you look at school events, the number of Number 50, Number 63 minibuses that frequent our stores is overwhelming … That’s the main reason why we’re here. Because we want to meet them,” he said.
The new outlet, situated along the public road at D’Edward, is being marketed as KFC Rosignol because of its proximity to the neighbouring community.
Beharry indicated that the company’s expansion programme would continue beyond the opening of the West Berbice facility, with several other locations under consideration.
Expansion plans
Asked about plans to extend operations farther east, Beharry said:
“Yes, of course. I just mentioned Number 50, Number 63 buses, right? So, let’s not leave anybody out of the equation. We also want to go to Linden … But it takes time for us to do these things. These things are not cheap by any means … But our immediate next steps are to take care of the people of East Berbice before the end of 2027.”

The company is also considering future expansion into Essequibo, although Beharry acknowledged that establishing additional restaurants requires substantial investment and careful planning.
Its immediate expansion plans include another restaurant currently under construction, which Beharry said is expected to open before the end of 2026, increasing the nationwide network to 14 outlets.
Although he declined to disclose the precise cost of the D’Edward facility, Beharry confirmed that the investment amounted to hundreds of millions of dollars.
He explained that establishing modern restaurants requires substantial capital expenditure, particularly when facilities must be equipped to provide several options for customers. The new restaurant currently has 40 employees, with the potential for additional employment as the company introduces more services.
Beharry noted that the existing workforce had been recruited before the introduction of home delivery, which is among the services planned for the location.
Additional, modern services
He said the company was carefully managing the introduction of additional services to ensure that it could meet customer demand without creating excessive waiting times. The restaurant has been constructed with a drive-through facility, which Beharry indicated could become operational later on opening day, following the completion of activities associated with the ceremony.
The D’Edward restaurant is also expected to become KFC Guyana’s first outlet equipped with a self-service ordering and payment kiosk, allowing customers to select their meals and pay electronically using bank cards.
Orders placed through the kiosk will be transmitted directly to the restaurant’s processing system for preparation and collection, providing an alternative to conventional counter service. Home delivery is also planned, although Beharry did not provide a date for its introduction. Beyond the services offered at the restaurant, Beharry noted that the investment’s significance extended beyond its immediate operations, with potential benefits for the wider community.
He suggested that the presence of a modern commercial facility could improve the attractiveness and value of surrounding properties while creating opportunities for residents and other businesses.
“The economic landscape of Rosignol and the surrounding communities is not the same anymore. And you have a modern building like this … In terms of the economy, most of our employees are coming from around these areas. So, think about 30 -35 people being employed here, adding income to the communities in which they live. We are not talking about securities yet. We are not talking about transportation services, taxis, home delivery riders. All those things fit into the funnel of the future development of Berbice,” he said.
The company expects the restaurant to generate additional economic activity through its demand for transportation, security, maintenance and other supporting services.
KFC Guyana CEO Paul Subryan was among the company representatives participating in Sunday’s opening ceremony, which included the official ribbon-cutting. The company, operated by Beharry Restaurant Operations Inc, a member of the Beharry Group of Companies, has continued expanding its restaurant network since the group acquired the business in 2016.
