General Manager of the Georgetown Football Club (GFC), Faizal Khan is seeing the positives in his club’s recent struggles as the Inaugural Stag Elite League in drawing to a close in its Finale stage.

GFC currently sits at the bottom of the points table after only salvaging one point from its last nine games in this the final half of the season and remains winless.

Khan explained that his team has been able to create a lot of chances in front of goal but inconsistent execution in the final third has been a big problem  “ The GFC forwards have been very unlucky in front of goal, goal scoring chances were either missed or ruled offside ” Khan stated.

Khan also reminded Guyana Times Sport that most of his top players were missing in action due to lengthy bans; this according to Khan was a major contributing factor, “no doubt if these individuals were part of the squad for all the games, GFC would have already recorded its first victory in this half of the Stag Elite League.”

GFC currently has one of the youngest squads in the league and the enthusiasm and talent, Khan believes have been on display in the Stag Elite League which also is a positive according the Khan.

“As general manager of the team, I reiterate the club’s view which is to give the best young players in Guyana a chance to play for GFC in the Elite League.‘’

One of the stand out players for GFC has been Linden Pickett who is currently the Captain of the squad and this has led to Pickett being called up to represent the Guyana Golden Jaguars in a match against Suriname last February.

Khan stated that he is very proud to have him wear the club’s band each week and urged all talented hard working young footballers in Guyana, to visit the team at the GFC ground for a chance to play football at the highest level in Guyana.

“ For me if we can get the support and keep this young GFC team together, hardworking disciplined players like Curtez Kellman, Lennox Cort, Ronel McLean, Ralph Parris, Linden Dorway, Jamal Gibbs, Sesi Norville, Kelsey Benjamin and others will go on to great things in football and in life.”

After only being able to secure one point GFC is now 13 points behind fourth place GDF FC and qualification for the final 4 of the Inaugural Stage Elite League seems an impossible task.

Khan says he is focused on finishing the season on a positive note and encouraged his team to play each game as if it were a cup final.
