La Grange taxi driver beaten, robbed during home invasion

A 41-year-old taxi driver of La Grange, West Bank Demerara (WBD) was on Friday evening robbed and assaulted after three men invaded his home; two of whom were armed with guns. According to reports, Reshi Pasha of Doctor Dam, La Grange, WBD, had just returned home at about 23:10h when the bandits pounced on him.
Guyana Times understands that the taxi driver had just parked his car in his yard and was proceeded towards the front door when he noticed the three men. According to the Police, Pasha ran to the back of the yard but was followed by two of the bandits.
The taxi driver then tried to run around the other side of his house, but was confronted by the third bandit who was armed with a handgun.
The suspect then dealt him several lashes to his face and took him at gunpoint to his door where he demanded that Pasha open it. At that time, the victim’s mother who resides in the same house, saw the commotion and opened the door which gave all three bandits the opportunity to enter the house. While one of them held Pasha and his mother at gunpoint, the two others ransacked the house and carted off $230,000, a gold chain valued $200,000, an electronic tablet valued $20,000 and his cellphone valued $45,000.
The bandits then made good their escape through the front door. Meanwhile, the taxi driver was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WRDH) where he was treated for his injuries. A report was made and the Police have launched an investigation. Meanwhile, Pasha’s neighbour told this newspaper that he did not realise what had occurred until Saturday morning. He noted that there has been an upsurge of robberies in the area.
