Labourer in custody after setting cousin’s home on fire

A 36-year-old labourer of Charity Squatting Area in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) is in Police custody assisting with investigations concerning the burning down of his cousin Elvin Naughtron’s Lot C 925 Charity Squatting Area home following an argument last Friday.

This newspaper was told that Naughtron lived alone in the 15’X8’ single-storey wooden structure, and was out with friends at the Charity Back Street when he was informed that his house was on fire. By the time he arrived on scene, his home was completely gutted. Firemen who were summoned to the scene could not extinguish the blaze.

Following his arrest, the suspect allegedly told Police that he and Naughtron had had an argument over money he had loaned Naughtron. The suspect’s story is that he and his cousin had had a scuffle over the money, and he had threatened to burn Naughtron’s home down.
