Labourer jailed for stealing from vendor

Jailed: Devon Williams

Magistrate Leron Daly on Friday sentenced an Industry, East Coast Demerara (ECD) labourer to one year imprisonment when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts; charged for stealing a quantity of items.
Devon Williams admitted to the charge which stated that on June 17, 2019 at Water and Robb Streets, Georgetown, he stole one vendor’s cart, a quantity of alcoholic beverages, glass bottles, confectionaries, cigarettes and other items amounting to $90, 400 property of Dellon Barker.
Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh told the Court that on the day in question, the Virtual Complainant went to collect his cart but it was missing. Eyewitnesses later identified the defendant to the VC as the person who was seen removing the cart. The Court also heard that as the VC approached the labourer, he ran away, and as such, a report was made to the Police. Williams was later seen and arrested.
