Last lap for KMTC Phagwah meet

The deadline for registration for the annual Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club Phagwah Horse Race meet billed for March 19 at the Club’s facility at Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice is quickly approaching.

Horse owners wishing to sign up for the one day event have up to Sunday March 12 to signal their intention with the KMTC. The eight-race, one-day event will feature horses classified ‘D1 and lower’ in the main event covering one mile sprint for $700,000 top prize. The second to fourth place finishers will receive $350,000, $175,000 and $87,000 respectively. Registration is set at $85,000.

Another seven furlong race is on the cards for horses classified `H 1 and Lower’ with the winner riding off with $220,000, while the second, third and fourth place finishers will receive $110,000, $55,000 and $28,000 respectively. Registration is set at $25,000.

The day will begin with horses classified ‘L-Non Winner’ battling for honours with the winner riding away with $100,000. The second place finisher will collect $50,000, while the third and fourth place finishers will receive $25,000 and $13,000 respectively for the five-furlong race.

Horses classified `I 3 and Lower Non-Winner’ will also be in action over six furlongs with the winner taking home $150,000 while the other three top performers set to pocket $75,000, $38,000 and $19,000 respectively.

Horses are set to cover six more furlongs in the `E 1 Maiden and F and Lower’ class. The winner will receive $400,000 with second to fourth place finishers rolling out with $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.

The ‘L Open W/A’ class will see horses galloping over five furlongs with a top purse of $110,000 while the second, third and fourth place finishers will be receive $55,000, $27,000 and $14,000 respectively.

The ‘Three year old Guyana Bred Maidens will also be in action covering a distance of six furlongs for a top prize of $200,000. The second place winner through to fourth will cash in with $100,000, $50,000, and $25,000 respectively.

The final race will see the best in the ‘K and Lower class looking to snatch the $120,000 first prize when the race along the five furlongs. Second place will receive $60,000 while third will take off with $30,000 and fourth winning $15,000.
