With the preliminary stages of the 2018 Rainforest Water/Malta Supreme/Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) League concluded, many fans can now breathe a sigh of relief as the fixtures for the First, Second and Under-23 divisions are now set in stone.
A recent release from the Association has indicated that the top four teams from each division have qualified for the next round.
First Division
With each team having played eight games, the Ravens have come out in first position, having lost only once; while second place finisher were the Kobras, who had the same points. Rounding off third place were the Pacesetters, who won 6 games; and coming in at fourth are the Plaisance Guardians, who won five games.
Second Division
The final four in this division are the unbeaten Plaisance Guardians, who topped the Division; Pacesetters, who won five and lost three came in second; while the Eagles and Sonics came in third and fourth respectively.
Under 23
For the Under-23s, two teams were eliminated after playing ten games each; the Guardians and the Pacesetters booked their spots with seven wins each; while third and fourth places were grabbed by UG Trojans and the Eagles.
Speaking with Guyana Times Sport, President of the Association, Adrian Hooper, has said, “We had a good turnout, as compared to last year. We even added a new team this year, meaning that we are gradually expanding our territory. For my liking, I’m pleased with the support we have gotten from the players, fans and media in coming out and supporting us on a nightly basis, and for that I’m thankful.”
Hooper also said the semifinal matchups will commence on December 5.
The matchups for the semifinals will see the Ravens battling the Guardians, while the Kobras will duke it out with the Pacesetters in the first division. In the second division category, the Guardians will aim to trounce the out-of-form Pepsi Sonics, while the Eagles will attempt to fly away with the Pacesetters.
The Under-23 division will see the Guardians looking to overthrow the Eagles, while the Trojans will seek to defeat the Pacesetters.
