Leguan woman gets bail on trafficking narcotics charge
Forty-nine-year-old Ann Jonas, of Lot 13 Leguan Island, Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), who was busted with a quantity of cocaine and marijuana two Saturdays ago, was granted bail by Magistrate Ally Seepaul when she appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.
She had been slapped with a trafficking in narcotics charge.
On Friday, she denied the charge which stated that on June 6, 2020, at Parika, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), she had 16 grams of cocaine and 90 grams of ganja in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Reports are that on the day in question, ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) acting on information received, went to Parika, where they approached Jonas and conducted a search of her person and belongings.
During the search, they discovered the cocaine and ganja wrapped in ziplock and black plastic bags.
Magistrate Seepaul, after listening to the prosecution’s submission, granted Jonas bail in the sum of $75,000. The case will continue on August 24, 2020.
