Lethem man dies in motorcycle crash

A 42-year-old man is now dead after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a median on Monday on the Barrack Retreat Public Road Lethem, Central Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).
Dead is Benito Barrington Lochinvar of Lethem, Central Rupununi.
The incident occurred at about 23:40h as Lochinvar was riding motorcycle CL 5649.

Police said that prior to the accident, Lochinvar was allegedly imbibing alcohol at a shop in Lethem and left proceeding west along Barrack Retreat Public Road on his motorcycle. He was allegedly riding at a fast rate of speed and was not wearing a safety helmet
“…he was swerving side to side on the roadway when he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a nearby median, receiving several injuries about his head and body as a result,” the report stated
Police said Lochinvar managed to get back up and attempted to ride further but fell to the ground again where he sustained additional injuries. He was subsequently picked up in an unconscious state by medical personnel and escorted to the Lethem Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A post-mortem examination conducted on Lochinvar’s body on Tuesday by Government Pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh revealed that the man died as a result of multiple injuries due to the motorcycle incident.
The man’s body has since been handed over to his relatives for funeral arrangements. (G9)
