Two Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) residents on Friday pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and were fined $100,000 each or an alternative of two weeks’ imprisonment.
Roderick George, 71, a teacher of Tabatinga, Lethem, Central Rupununi, was arrested on August 3, 2026, for driving motor car DAM 2087 while his alcohol level exceeded the prescribed limit of consumption.
As such, he appeared before Magistrate Nekkisha Logan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him, to which he pleaded guilty.
In addition, Terrell Pauline, 24, a fireman of St Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi, was charged with a similar offence. Police stated that he was caught driving motorcycle CN 7286 while being under the influence of alcohol.
He too appeared before Magistrate Nekkisha Logan and pleaded guilty to the charge. Similarly, he was granted $100,000 bail or an alternative of two weeks’ imprisonment.
