Lewis, Ramlakhan guide Maria’s Pleasure past Good Success

– Zeelandia, G Square Cavaliers register close victories

On the Island of Wakenaam, the Badri Prasad Memorial T20 tournament continued on Sunday, with Bernard Lewis and Leoryan Ramlakhan striking half centuries to send Maria’s Pleasure past Good Success while Zeelandia defeated Maria’s Pleasure and G Square Cavaliers beat Noitgedacht.

In the opening game, Maria’s Pleasure were lead well by Lewis (83) and Ramlakhan (65) as they posted 189-8 when they batted first against Good Success at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground. Shazaam Mohamed bagged 2-5. In reply, Good Success were limited to 144-6 from their allotted overs as they fell 45 runs short of their target. Vickram Ramnarine scored an unbeaten 48 while Nazeer Mohamed was left stranded on 30 not out.
However, the Maria’s Pleasure XI were outplayed by an energetic Zeelandia team in the second contest at the same venue.
Maria’s Pleasure once again took first strike and were rattled out for a mere 113 as Leonard Lewis was the only meaning full contribution with a top score of 30. Navishaul Pooran was the prime demolisher, grabbing 3-5 while Saga Jadookul chipped in with 3-16.
Zeelandia raced to the target of 114-7 as Pooran returned with the bat and stroked an impressive 55. Ramlakhan looked to stop the scoring rate but the runs were too small a total to defend but still managed 3-20.
At Belle Plaine, G Square Cavaliers overcame Noitgedacht by three wickets. Dayawant Shiwnandan and Kamal Khan captured three wickets a piece as Noitgedacht were skittled out for 94 inside 15 overs. Shiwnandan bagged 3-11 while Khan claimed 3-19. Cavaliers blasted to their target comfortably losing seven wickets with 25 balls to spare. Bumeshwar Ramkissoon made 18.
The final preliminary round game will be played on Sunday with Noitgedacht looking to redeem themselves when they come up against Sans Souci while the semi finals will be contested on October 16 with Good Success challenging Sans Souci and Cavaliers facing off with Maria’s Pleasure.
