In a message through its Embassy in the State of Kuwait, Liberian President George Manneh Weah said to his Guyanese counterpart that his election to office is “undoubtedly an affirmation of the confidence reported in you by the people of your great country”.
President Manneh Weah also said that he is “particularly delighted” by President Ali’s “insightful leadership” and his promise to “unite the country on the platform of combating poverty”, and ensuring peace and stability.

To this end, the Liberian Head of State expressed his desire to see continued co-operation between the nations.
He added that “As you embark on this journey of leadership, we look forward to further strengthening the friendship and co-operation so happily subsisting between our two countries and peoples, as we continue to forge a common front for the promotion of international peace, security and development… I have no doubt that your tenure will bring even greater prosperity to your people.”
Guyana and Liberia established diplomatic ties on November 11, 1974.
Meanwhile, in his congratulatory message to President Ali, the SADR Head of State, Brahim Gali, also expressed a desire to see the ties between the two countries strengthened.

In his letter, President Gali said, “I express the wish to see the strong bonds of mutual understanding and supports linking our two countries continue growing.”
The SADR President also relayed his confidence that under President Ali’s leadership “the traditional friendship between our two peoples and countries will definitely be further strengthened”.
President Gali said Guyana and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic established diplomatic relations at the level of Ambassadors on September 12, 2012.
President Ali was declared Guyana’s ninth Executive President on August 2, 2020 – five months after General and Regional Elections were held in Guyana. The country was embroiled in a prolonged electoral and political impasse following the March 2 elections.
A National Recount exercise conducted showed the Ali-led People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) had secured 233,336 votes, while its main political rival the APNU/AFC coalition obtained 217,920 votes – a difference of 15,416 votes.
The PPP/C had received tremendous support from the international community, which had persistently called for the people’s choice to be respected and for democracy to prevail in Guyana after the coalition had refused to accept the recount results.
