Lifeless body of Prospect man found in canal

The lifeless body of a man was on Tuesday found floating in a canal at Prospect on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) suspected to have been drowned.
The dead man has been identified as Raybond Johnson, 35, a labourer of Lot 181 Prospect, EBD.
Based on reports received, the body was discovered at about 06:40h by residents, who raised an alarm. The Guyana Police Force was summoned to the area and started their investigations. His body was lying face down and it had no clothes.
A relative of the now dead man reportedly told Police that the man was sitting under a coconut tree in the vicinity of the canal but soon after he was seen swimming.
Johnson’s relative said that he did not pay much attention to him and went about his business.
Sometime after he was alerted by residents that Johnson’s lifeless body was seen floating in the canal.
According to the man’s relative, Johnson suffered from epilepsy and it is believed that he might have had a seizure while swimming.
His body was taken to Lyken’s Funeral home awaiting a post-mortem.
