Limacol WCPL: GAW Women hunt down 146 to lift 1st-ever WCPL title

There were twists and thrills to last 100 T20 matches at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, on Thursday afternoon after, at long last, the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) Women rallied in a gritty chase to lift their first-ever Limacol Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) crown.

Boisterous cheers echoed around the stadium as Chedean Nation hit Karishma Ramharack for a maximum in the third ball of the 20th over to write off a chase of 145. As the Guyanese players and staff rushed out onto the middle, hundreds of Guyanese fans celebrated alongside them in their inaugural triumph.

Getting to the gold
The chase was by no means an easy one for the Guyanese franchise as it ebbed and flowed either way throughout the 20 overs.
The Trinbago Knight Riders were on top first as Shikha Pandey rocked back Eboni Brathwaite’s stumps for four in the first over. Erin Burns then joined Tazmin Brits at the crease but she too didn’t last long, contributing a run-a-ball 12 to the chase.
At the other end, it was business as usual for Tazmin Brits who carried on in the same manner that she did in GAW’s last two victories.
By the time Burns left, the surface began to hold up on the Amazon warriors’ batters, making finding the boundary a bit more difficult than before. The pressure to score got to Brits eventually, who tried to chip down the track but had her stumps clipped by Ramharack. Burns hit 22 from 29, featuring two fours and one six.
Shemaine Campbelle was unable to stick around, hitting only nine from 15, and Realeanna Grimmond pitched in two, while Nadine de Klerk had to walk back for a first ball duck, trying to fetch a wide-ish delivery from Ramharack that only went as far as Deandra Dottin in the circle.
The Amazon Warriors’ women were not in trouble at 55-5. Captain Chloe Tryon did the hard yards first, getting a feel of the trick surface before Marizanne Kapp for a four that would reveal her intentions for the innings.
Tryon went on to slam three more fours and a six in her brisk 32 off 18 that brought the equation down considerably for GAW. She enjoyed 40 off 23- balls partnership with Nation that brought the Guyanese back into the contest.
But when Laura Harris’ third delivery of the day in the 17th over brushed Tryon’s shoes and went on to disturb the stumps, the Knight Riders Women celebrated as though the war was won.
What they had not accounted for was Chedean Nation coming big in her first innings with the bat of the 2026 tournament. Early on, Nation struggled with running the ones and twos but eventually decided to deal in maximums, hitting four in her 39 off 21 that led the Amazon Warriors women over the line toward the championship.
Dottin was the pick of the Amazon Warriors bowlers, claiming 2-19 in 4 overs, while Pandey and Ramharack also had two scalps.

Containing TKRW
Earlier, GAW women started well with the ball, containing the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) women to 60-3 in 12 overs. However, a slew of partnerships in the back end propelled TKR to 145-6.
Sushma Verma hit a team-high 39 off 34 balls, while Pandey’s back-end innings of 27 from 17 did well to get the Knight Riders Women up to a defendable score. Meanwhile, Kapp enjoyed a lightning-fast 25 off 10.
Shabnim Ismail had tidy figures of 2-18 from four overs, while Shamilia Connell accounted for the other non-run-out wicket.
Shemaine Campbelle, who was the engine of the Amazon Warriors’ middle-order was named the tournament’s Player of the Series, accumulating 154 runs across the series.
