Linden duo jailed, fined for narcotic trafficking

A forty-two-year-old taxi driver and his 19-year-old female accomplice were on Friday fined $6.3 million each and jailed four and three years respectively after they were found guilty by Magistrate Fabayo Azore for narcotics possession.
The accused, Michael Bascom of Phase One, Linden Housing Scheme and Reva Bovell, of Obama Drive, Linden, were handed down the sentence several months after being charged for the offence.
It was alleged that on May 9, 2018, at the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, they trafficked 11.832 kilograms of cannabis which they had in their possession.
Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor, Konyo Sandiford had told the court that on the day in question the two defendants were the lone occupants of the vehicle when it was stopped and searched by ranks at a roadblock.
