Linden duo slapped with narco trafficking charges

Two residents of West Watooka Hilltop, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) on Monday appeared before Magistrate Tariq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court to answer three counts of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
The duo, 38-year-old gold miner Quincy Austin and 27-year-old cook Ameidis Joseidis Mattey Perez, both pleaded not guilty to all charges when they were read in court.
They were each granted bail in the sum of $50,000 on the first and second counts and $10,000 on the third count, amounting to a total of $110,000 per person.
Austin and Perez were arrested on November 9, 2025, by police ranks at the Itaballi Checkpoint. As part of their bail conditions, they are required to report to the Itaballi checkpoint on the first day of every month.
The case was adjourned to January 5, 2026.
