The Linden leg of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the National Milling Company of Guyana (NAMILCO) National Under-17 Thunderbolt Flour Power league is slated to kick-off on Saturday despite the inclement weather which has plagued the tournament.
The commence of the league in the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) will see an official launch being held at the Wisburg Secondary School ground from 12:00h, where officials of the GFF and the Milling Company are expected to attend.
The league which is the first of its kind in Guyana is expected to the pillar of youth football in the country since it will be a played on year-round basis and will foster the growth of young players.
Meanwhile, over the weekend some play was possible in the Essequibo Coast/Pomeroon Football Association, with two matches being played.
At the Charity Ground, Charity Extreme drew with Dartmouth 2-2 while Wakapau FC won via walkover against Super 11 FC; over at the Mainstay Lake ground, the home side defeated Henrietta FC 3-0.
The Thunderbolt Tournament spans throughout the football associations of Guyana and has the majority of its match days slated for weekends at the various community grounds.
The Milling Company has been in existence since 1969 and produces several heath oriented products such as Maid Marian Harvest High Fibre Whole Wheat Flour, Maid Marian Wheat-Up Breakfast Porridge, and Maid Marian Multigrain Flour among many other products.
