Linden market vendor busted with gun, ammo at Police roadblock

A 47-year-old market vendor of Main Street, Central Amelia’s Ward, Mackenzie was on Tuesday arrested following the discovery of a firearm and several rounds of ammunition in his motor car.
Police stated that during a Police roadblock, the driver was observed acting in a suspicious manner and as such, one of the ranks approached the car and informed him of their desire to carry out a search of the vehicle.
He was asked to exit the vehicle, but was hesitant to do so; however, he eventually exited after the rank insisted.
During the search, the rank observed a black handgun on the driver’s seat and immediately took possession of it. The firearm was examined and discovered to be a .32 Taurus pistol with 11 live matching rounds of ammunition in the magazine.
The vendor was subsequently arrested, cautioned, and escorted to Mackenzie Police Station. At the Station, a thorough search was carried out on the vehicle during which two small transparent plastic bags were found in the middle pocket.
One contained a quantity of cannabis and the other contained 40 ecstasy tablets. The narcotic was weighed and amounted to two grams.
The suspect remains in custody pending charges.
