Linden teen to serve 80 hours community service for narco-trafficking

A Linden teen, who pleaded guilty to narcotics trafficking was sentenced to 80 hours of community service by Magistrate Wanda Fortune following his appearance at the Linden Magistrate’s Court on Friday. Eighteen-year-old Shamar Mankou of Lot 693 Phase 1 B Wisroc Housing Scheme, Wismar, was arrested and charged by Police for the offence of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking on Thursday. According to the prosecution’s case, Mankou was walking on the road with a brown shoulder bag when Police conducted a search on his person and found a transparent plastic bag with cannabis leaves, seeds and stems. The cannabis which was later weighed amounted to 37 grams. The community service is to be executed at the Wismar Police Station in Linden. The sentence carries a default sentence of six months’ imprisonment. (G13)
