Lindeners remanded for narco possession

Seventeen-year-old Shequan Alleyne of Block 22, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) was on Wednesday morning remanded to prison by City Magistrate Fabayo Azore one day after he was busted in South Ruimveldt, Georgetown with 16 grams of amphetamines for the purpose of trafficking.

The prosecution, however, raised objections based on the seriousness of the charge and Magistrate Azore agreed. As such, the defendant was denied his pre-trial liberty.
Alleyne will return to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on February 7, for the continuation of the trafficking case.
Meanwhile in a separate case, a 55-year-old Lindener was charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking on Wednesday morning.
Henry Conway, of Lot 162 Amelia’s Ward, Linden, appeared before Magistrate Christel Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
The prosecution contended that Conway was searched and arrested on Tuesday evening by ranks on patrol at Two Miles, Mabura, Region 10. The man was reportedly found with 547 grams of cannabis.
In court on Wednesday, Conway denied the charge. He was remanded to prison.
