Lusignan Prison data entry clerk charged for attempting to take ganja in Prison

Jason Sookdeo, a 22-year-old data entry clerk attached to the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara (ECD), appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court on Thursday to answer the charge of possession of narcotics for the purposes of trafficking.

The young man of Lot 1 Mon-Repos, ECD, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on June 8 he had in his possession 80 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

He made his appearance before Magistrate Fabio Azore and was granted $50,000 bail.

Sookdeo will return to court on July 8.

On the day in question, Sookdeo had the illegal drug was concealed in a food supplement bottle, which was in his haversack. It was discovered after he was subjected to a mandatory search.
