Pregnant Lethem teacher, partner attacked and robbed by cutlass-wielding bandits

An 18-year-old pregnant teacher and her 26-year-old partner were on Wednesday evening attacked and robbed by three cutlass-wielding bandits who kicked down their door to gain entry into their home.

The incident occurred at around 20:30hrs at St Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi.

The couple were in bed when the bandits barged in and started to chop the man about his body.

Police Headquarters said the partner “eventually escaped”; they have no other information on his whereabouts.

Meanwhile, the pregnant woman observed the perpetrators searching their home.

The perpetrators then used their cutlasses to destroy a bicycle valued at $35,000, a hammock valued at $5,000 and a black Honda XR motorcycle bearing registration #CG 4118.

The suspects then left the home, and the teen discovered her cellphone and music box missing. Also missing was a quantity of silver and gold jewellery valued at $45,000.

A report was made to the police and acting on information, a raid was conducted on three houses in Tabatinga, St. Ignatius Village and Lethem where four males were arrested including the three suspects.

They are presently in custody at the Lethem Police Station. They are aged 18, 22, 23 and 49.

A Brazilian-made motorcycle was found and is presently lodged at Lethem Police Station pending investigations.
