Lythcott backs Guyana U15 boys to make impact at FIFA World Cup Festival

Guyana’s National Under-15 Boys team Head Coach Trevon Lythcott is confident his young Golden Jaguars are well prepared to make their mark at the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Azerbaijan, with the squad set to begin its campaign on October 24.
Lythcott said preparations had progressed well, with the full squad now assembled and the focus shifting towards fine-tuning the team’s approach ahead of the international assignment.
“I think the preparation has been good, and we’ve just completed the squad with everybody being present now. So it’s just a matter of putting everything together now, and I think we have the right bunch to actually bring out everything that we want to execute,” Lythcott said.
The Head Coach has set an ambitious target for the young Guyanese, stressing that the team is aiming to win the tournament and secure a place in Tier One.
“Our expectation is to win the tournament and end in Tier One. Concentration, playing together as a team, sticking to the game plan. So I think that would actually give us success in this tournament,” he added.
Beyond their tactical preparation, Lythcott believes the time spent together in camp has helped foster the unity needed to compete at the international level.
“Being among the team and being in camp for so long, it brings a brotherhood in the camp. So everybody’s being like a family right now. So being in camp is pretty much good, and that’s a good sign to build on. The players are eager and ready to put their best foot forward and go forward with what we need to do,” he said.
The tournament will feature an innovative eight-a-side format, with matches played over two 20-minute halves. Guyana faces a demanding schedule, with five qualification-stage matches spread across October 24 to 26.
The Golden Jaguars will open against the Islamic Republic of Iran on October 24 at 11:30h before returning to action the following day against Mauritius at 10:15h and Bosnia and Herzegovina at 17:00h
Guyana will conclude the qualification stage on October 26 with matches against Brunei Darussalam at 09:00h and Vietnam at 15:45h.
With the full squad now together and team spirit growing, Lythcott will be hoping his players can translate their preparation into performances that deliver the desired results and make Guyana proud on the global stage.
