The Machinery Corporation of Guyana Limited (Macorp) has indicated that it will now be seeking to open a new branch in Lethem, Region Nine (Upper Takatu-Upper Essequibo).
The proposal was made following a recent visit paid to the region by the company which saw great potential there. Product Support Manager, Guillermo Escarraga, after making the revelation noted that the ultimate goal is to develop the communities through Macorp’s services.
Escarraga said the company is looking to establish a demonstration centre as well as a training centre in Lethem.

“We want to get our partnership relation there but ultimately the goal will be to establish a demonstration centre, also a training centre and some other facilities that will help the development of the communities over there,” the Product Support Manager revealed.
However, the proposal for the branch is now in the pipeline and its success depends on a number of factors, according to Escarraga.
Even so, works to have the branch established will commence early next year. “This is a long run, it depends on many factors, it depends on the development of the region but we hope to start earlier next year,” he disclosed.
Machinery training will now be provided to residents in Region Nine, in order for those persons to be employed when the branch is completed. “Training will be done for excavator operators; we have the machines so people can come here and learn the basics, then they go to the simulators and finally they come to operate the machine. This is open to the public,” he said.
Training for technicians will also be provided by the company which selects the trainees from across Guyana. “We also have training for technicians and what we do is we go around the country and we select people from different technical institutes and we bring them here and we train them for one year so that if we have the need for them we can have them join the company or let other companies know that we have trained these people and that they are available and have the skills to perform the duties that the industry requires,” the product Manager disclosed.
