Man caught selling ganja arrested

Commander for Regional Division 4B – East Bank Demerara (EBD) – Superintendent Denise Griffith has indicated that between 16:30h and 18:10h on Tuesday, ranks from the division conducted patrols in several communities and a man was arrested in Kuru Kururu after he was caught selling marijuana.
The raids were conducted in Timehri North, Circuitville, Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke, Coverden, and Swan, EBD, among other communities.
While in Kuru Kururu, a man clad in pink pants, a white jersey, and a flap hat was seen collecting money from several persons, which he placed into his pants pocket. He was also observed handing over ‘blue Zip-lock-like packets’ which he would retrieve from a black plastic bag concealed in a PVC pipe affixed to a small derelict wooden building.

Reports are that ranks kept surveillance for about 15 minutes.
The suspect was subsequently confronted by the ranks who retrieved the black plastic bag from the PVC pipe, and a search was conducted in his presence.
Police said during the search they observed that the bag had contained several blue Ziplock bags which had leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
A search was also carried out on the suspect’s person and $55,740 in cash was found in his pants pocket. The cash comprised five- and one-thousand-dollar bills, along with hundred- and twenty-dollar notes which were suspected to be proceeds from marijuana sales.
The 24-year-old man who claimed that he is from Wismar, Linden was arrested and escorted to the Timehri Police Station, where the illicit substance was weighed in his presence and amounted to 140 grams. It was later placed into an evidence bag, marked, sealed, and lodged.
A probe was further launched. (G9)
