Sophia man dies almost 2 weeks after being shot

Almost two weeks after he was shot in Sophia, Greater Georgetown, a 27-year-old labourer succumbed to his injuries.
Dead is Yardan Jacobs of North Sophia who was shot on April 16 while hanging out with a group of persons in the community.
Jacobs died at the Georgetown Public Hospital around 17:00h on Tuesday, Police said.

The victim’s cousin, 29-year-old Steve Bacchus, a businessman, was also shot during the incident.
Reports are that Jacobs was shot to his abdomen while his cousin sustained a gunshot wound to his lower back.
Based on reports received, Jacobs was at the Tanary area in Sophia hanging out with friends when an argument ensued with another man.
However, Bacchus, Jacob’s cousin, intervened, causing the suspect to get angry. The suspect then whipped out a firearm and discharged several rounds in the direction of the two men.
The suspect then fled the scene.
Police ranks on patrol duty responded and took Jacobs to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted as a patient. Police had reported that his condition was listed as stable.
Bacchus was taken to the hospital by public-spirited citizens and was also admitted, and his condition was listed as stable too.
After the incident, Police launched a manhunt for the suspect. It is still unclear if the suspect was arrested.
The body of the deceased man is at the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem. (G9)
