Man jailed for slapping reputed wife

A 55-year-old was jailed for six months on Wednesday after he admitted to slapping his reputed wife during an argument.
Wayne Johnson, a labourer of Waterloo Street, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to two charges.
He admitted that on January 17 at North Road, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously assaulted Carlann Smith. The man, however, denied that on the same day, he made use of threatening language towards Smith.
In court on Wednesday, the Virtual Complainant said that she is tired of being mistreated by Johnson. She told the court that it is not the first time he hit her. Further, she told the court that following the incident, she went to a friend’s home and he went there and threatened her.
Johnson was jailed for six months on the assault charge and is expected to return to court on February 5 for the threatening language charge.
