Police in Regional Division 4C, East Coast Demerara (ECD), have a man in custody after he was caught removing security lights.
It was reported that the simple larceny was committed between 18:00h on Monday and 06:30h on Tuesday at Fanta Foods located at Coldingen, ECD.
The 28-year-old suspect, who hails from Strathspey, ECD, allegedly stole eight pairs of security lights and eight pairs of solar panels (value unknown).
Police said the proprietor of Fanta Foods went to his business place where he saw the suspect removing the lights and solar panels. He raised an alarm and contacted Vigilance Police Station, causing the suspect to flee.
A search was conducted in the area and the suspect was arrested with two solar panels in his possession.
He was taken to the Vigilance Police Station where he was detained and the panels were lodged. Investigations are in progress.
Only a few days ago, a man was arrested and charged with stealing from the Trinity Methodist Church at Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.
The man, Jameer Shaw, was charged with stealing a TV, amplifiers, and other items.
Based on information received between March 22 and March 23, 2022, at Leopold Street, the man broke into the Methodist Church and stole several items, which were the property of the church.
They included a 50-inch television, valued at $120,000; a DVR, valued at $42,000; a Gemini amplifier valued at $45,000; an LG amplifier valued at $40,000; a hard drive worth $24,000, and two wall fans worth $30,000.
He was subsequently arrested and charged.
