Man shot during foiled robbery

Thirty-one-year-old Terrence Ramlochan, of Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, was on Monday night shot to his left side, following a robbery attempt in front of his home.

The contractor was admitted to a private hospital and his condition was listed as stable.

According to reports reaching Guyana Times, the foiled robbery occurred after 21:00h, as Ramlochan arrived home from work and was opening his front gate. The bandit approached and pounced on the man with a hand gun, demanding that he hand over cash and a mobile phone.

However, as Ramlochan reportedly refused to hand over his valuables and attempted to disarm his attacker, a brief scuffle ensued and the contractor was shot. The perpetrator immediately fled the scene.

Neighbours told this publication that they did not hear the gunshot as they were caught up in the festivities of a party.

While the search for the bandit continues, family members of the injured man Tuesday afternoon met with Police investigators at the Sparendaam Police Station. They recalled details of what transpired in the time surrounding the shooting. A male relative of the injured man told this newspaper that he was asleep when the shooting happened.

Investigations into the matter are continuing.
