A mason was on Wednesday stabbed to death while making peace between two brothers who were reportedly fighting at a shop at Last Entrance, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Twenty-nine-year-old Hafeez Douglas, also called “Gargon”, of Lot 2981 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was stabbed once to his chest after which he collapsed and hit his head on a concrete drain. He reportedly died on the spot.
Based on reports received, the two brothers, Jermaine and “Lappy” were involved in a heated argument which quickly escalated into a scuffle. The now dead man who was friends with the two brothers intervened and attempted to make peace.

Herod further stated that he was on his way home when he received the tragic news.
The aggrieved man however learnt that his brother was stabbed once in the chest and that might have been the fatal blow. After realising that the young mason was motionless, the two brothers attempted to escape but the alleged stabber was held by the Police. The other brother is still on the run.
Guyana Times understands that the now dead man would normally go out and socialise with the two brothers and as such, the stabbing incident came as a shock to the family.
When this publication visited the scene, persons were still gathered but did not utter a word about what took place. The dead man’s mother, Alter Douglas, had gone to the East La Penitence Station to provide ranks with a statement.
Nevertheless, before she left, she told media operatives that she was at home and about to collect her two young children from school when a friend informed her that her son’s body was lying in front of the shop.
Without hesitation, she went to the scene and saw her eldest child lying motionless. “By this time, the ambulance come and when they check his pulse, he de done dead,” she cried. In tears, she explained that earlier in the day, she and her now dead son had a misunderstanding and he left the house.
Her intention, she noted, was to forgive him when he returned home. “Now I can’t even forgive he… he dead… how I go get to forgive he,” she noted. The young mason leaves to mourn his mother and four siblings. The Police are continuing their investigation into the fatal stabbing.
