After more than a week of evading Police, the suspect who was wanted in connection with the murder of a miner who intervened in a domestic dispute was arrested and has since confessed to the heinous crime.
He is accused to stabbing “Rakesh” of Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, to death after he acted as a peacemaker at Turtle Creek Landing.
However, the suspect, a miner of Lethem and Turtle Creek, Mazaruni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni Mazaruni), was escorted to the Bartica Police Station upon his arrest, where he gave a statement admitting to killing the man. He is expected to make his court appearance in the new week.
It was reported that the suspect and his reputed wife were involved in a physical altercation during which the victim intervened.
It was then that the suspect armed himself with a knife and turned on Rakesh, who put up a fight. During the scuffle between the men, the suspect stabbed Rakesh multiple times about his body and neck.
As a result of the injures, he fell onto the ground and remained in a pool of blood until he was picked up and taken to a medical facility in the area, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
