Seasoned local pro Parmanand “Max” Persaud was crowned champion at Saturday’s maiden Microsoft invitational golf tourney sponsored by Massy Technologies.

Golfers continued to endure weekly action following the end of the 2018 Guyana Open as yet another first-time sponsor came on board with the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) in order to host the well-attended event. With no Flights format to play, golfers sought to achieve the best Net scores in order to win.
Veteran female golfer Shanella Webster, playing on the Ladies Par 5, hit a hole 5 as her second stroke caused her ball to land only about two inches off from the hole, causing her to miss the albatross by two inches and end with an Eagle.

Persaud, meanwhile, outplayed several top golfers as he hit a winning Net of 66, 6 strokes more at 72, as he dominated the 14 other competitors, winning the first- ever tournament hosted by the technology giant.
Following the end of the Open, Massy Technologies General Manager Jason Sahai restated that the company was committed to supporting the development of golf in Guyana.
Massy Technologies through the popular Microsoft brand provides “Microsoft Cloud Services and Solutions” to Guyanese. It is intended to replace services widely used in offices across the country, and Sahai believed that cloud services will be dominating Guyana’s IT sector within the next three to five years.
Meanwhile, golfers were treated to a spectacular prize-giving ceremony as trophies for the top 4 Net scorers, a Latitude laptop for the Champion and a portable hard drive for the second-place winner, along with consolation prizes given up to the 10th-place performers ,were provided by the sponsors.
Consolation prizes also included tech such as webcams, mini computer mice, card readers, headphones, and more. Massy’s contribution also included T-shirts for all the golfers who participated, prompting LGC President Aleem Hussain to further extend his gratitude to Sahai and his team from Microsoft/Massy Technologies for making the inaugural event a major success.
