Poonai’s Pharmacy renews sponsorship of RHTY&SC Under-13 team

Popular Rose Hall Town businessman Poonai Bhirooj has renewed his sponsorship of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTY&SC) Under-13 team.

Poonai’s Pharmacy came on board in 2017 as the official sponsor of the year when he handed over a cheque to the Club’s Patron, President David Granger on September 14, 2017.
Secretary/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hilbert Foster stated that the RHTY&SC was delighted that the sponsorship was renewed for another year as the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) has been organising cricket tournaments for players at the Under-13 level.
Foster, who is also the President of the vibrant BCB, hailed the contribution of Bhirooj, who he described as a role model and friend to every Club member.
Since the formation of the Under-13 team, players like Jonathan Rampersaud, Mahendra Gopilall, Jeremy Sandia, Matthew Pottaya went on to play for either Berbice or Guyana. Additionally, the team have been actively involved in over 60 self-development programmes utilising sponsorship.
The programmes include monthly pensioners projects, feeding of the poor, a cricket academy and hampers for senior citizens.
Poonai’s Under-13 Team serve as a nursery for the Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes Under-15 Team and Assistant Secretary/CEO Simon Naidu noted that the team had already gone through the semi-finals of the BCB Da Silva Under-13 Tournament.
The Matthew Pottaya-led team defeated Albion Community Centre outright, obtained first innings points from Kendall’s Union, and held Port Mourant to a draw after losing first innings points. As runners-up in Zone B, they will play Blairmont Community Centre, winner of Zone A in the semi-finals at the D’Edward Ground.
The Poonai’s Under-13 Team is under the management of veteran RHTY&SC Executive Members Keith Hicks, Ravindra Nauth Kissoonlall and Tyrone Pottaya. Naidu is the team coordinator while National Under-15 players Jonathan Rampersaud, Mahendra Gopilall and Jeremy Sandia serve as mentors. Matthew Pottaya is the Captain while Nelroy Hicks serves as his deputy.
Bhirooj, in brief remarks, stated that he enjoyed a close relationship with the Club and has always admired its outstanding work. He urged the team to develop a culture of discipline and hard work while praising them for being good ambassadors of his company’s brand. The sponsorship amounted to $150,000.
