After the inclement weather thwarted several attempts to start the 22nd edition of the Mayor’s Cup Football Championship it will finally begin on Saturday at the Victoria Community center on the East Coast of Demerara.
The opening game is at 18:00 Hrs which will see Ann’s Grove United coming up against Eagles FC. The feature game of the opening night will have Milerock FC out of Linden tackling Beterverwagting FC out of East Coast of Demerara from 20:00 hrs.
On Sunday, fans will once again be entertained with another double header at the same venue. The opening fixture of the evening puts together Mahaica Determinators against Herstelling Raiders followed by Golden Grove against Buxton Stars in the second game.
The tournament which has 24 teams will be played on a knock-out basis and features teams from the five associations in Guyana.
For the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) the teams are by Milerock, Eagles and Federal Winners Connection.
Representing the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) are the Guyana Police Force, Western Tigers FC, Riddim Squad FC, Santos FC and Camptown FC.
East Demerara Football Association (EDFA) teams are Mahaica Determinators, Ann’s Grove United, Victoria Kings FC, Golden Grove FC, Buxton Stars and Beterverwagting (BV)/Triumph United.
The interest of the East Bank Football Association (EBFA) will be kept by Grove Hi-Tech, Agricola Red Triangle, Soesdyke, Herstelling Raiders and Kuru-Kururu Warriors while Den Amstel, Pouderoyen, Uitvlugt, Beavers and Eagles will be the participants from the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA)
Georgetown Football Club (GFC), Den Amstel and the Victoria Community Ground Community ground will be the venues hosting matches.
A championship trophy and 0,000 will be given to the winners while the second, third and fourth place finishers will pocket 0,000, 0,000 and 0,000 respectively and the corresponding trophy.
