Mc Gill continue to dominate WDCA T20 Competition

High-riding Mc Gill defeated Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) by 39 runs in the West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA) T20 Competition 2020 at the West MMZ Community Centre Ground.

Abdul Razack bagged 3-25 to take his side over the line

Mc Gill won the toss and took first strike. The visitors got off to a shaky start after losing openers Sudesh Persaud (6) and Travis Persaud (12) with the score on 23 in the fifth over, both removed by left-arm spinner Mahendra Nandkishore. Keshram Seyhodan and Troy Persaud steadied the ship with a 30-run partnership before the latter was adjudged lbw for 14 to Nandkishore at 53-3 in the ninth over. Seyhodan (15) fell shortly after via the lbw route to Sheldon Alexander at 66-4 in the 12th over. Azar Deen put together small partnerships with Daniel Basdeo (9) and Prahalad Singh (4), but failed to increase the scoring rate since wickets fell around him. Mc Gill’s innings eventually came to an end with the visitors posting 119-6 in 20 overs, Deen finished on 25* and Ganesh Puran 11*. Bowling for MMZ were Sheldon Alexander 3-14 and Mahendra Nandkishore 3-15.

The spin and pace of former national players Daniel Basdeo and Travis Persaud again proved to be a game changer. Basdeo removed opener Sheldon Alexander (7) lbw at 11-1 in the third over. Persaud then joined the party, removing Lalchan Lakeram (2) caught in the covers at 15-2 in the fourth over. Off-spinner Abdul Razack and former national left-arm spinner Kheshram Seyhodan worked hand in hand from the north and south ends respectively, putting a brake on the MMZ scoring. Razack removed Rajendra Dasrath, caught and bowled (3) at 29-3 in the eighth over; he then returned to remove Dexroy George (bowled for 12) and Nandkishore (lbw for a duck) at 50-5 in the 12th over.

Left-arm seamer Basdeo returned and immediately impacted the game removing Jermine Maxwell (22) caught at long-off in the 14th over at 56-6. MMZ eventually finished at 81-8 when their 20 overs expired with only Reaz Khan (20*) showing some resistance in the lower order. Bowling for Mc Gill were Abdul Razack 3-25, Daniel Basdeo 2-12 and Travis Persaud 1-12.
