Mc Gill Superstars CC host 2nd Sports Awards Ceremony

ꟷ Kheshram Seyhodan cops MVP Award

The McGill Superstars Cricket Club hosted their 2nd Annual Awards Ceremony on the evening of Wednesday, January 8th, and several club members and other personalities were honoured at the event, which was held at the New Thriving restaurant at Providence, East Bank Demerara.

Keshram Seyhodan was adjudged MVP of 2019 for the 367 runs he scored and the 21 wickets he had taken

Founded in 1992 by residents of Canal #1, West Bank Demerara, this club has thus far produced 3 national youth players in left-arm spinner Kheshram Seyhodan, left-arm seamer Daniel Basdeo, and batting all-rounder Travis Persaud.
At the event, club captain Sudesh Persaud recalled this club’s rise to form. He noted that even though they were making moves in the world of cricket, they still lacked a ground to play on. Sixteen years after formation, the club have their own ground, and have since produced players of high calibre, he said.
Persaud expressed confidence in the direction that sports in Guyana is headed, and confidence that the club would do more to develop sports in Guyana.

Addressing the awardees, President of the West Demerara Cricket Association, Anand Sanasie, said, “When I came back to Guyana, I started to do some work at the Wales Community Centre ground. We started some work and we brought things back up. Sudesh was the one that came looking for me, and told me he wanted me to come to a meeting.
“As I recalled, I went to the meeting without realizing that the guys had put my name up for the position of vice-president of the West Demerara Cricket Association.

It was quite a journey, and Mc Gill has a history of producing some excellent youngsters in cricket.
“I urge you to continue to move forward, and not backward. Continue to do what you are doing. I know West Demerara Cricket has a long way to go….”
The following persons were awarded at the ceremony: Sudesh Persaud – for being adjudged Cricketer of the Year (260 runs, 12 wickets).
Keshram Seyhodan — for being adjudged MVP (367 runs, 21 wickets).
Daniel Basdeo – for being adjudged All-Rounder of the Year (229 runs, 24 wickets).

Sudesh Persaud was adjudged Cricketer of the Year

Ganesh Persaud – for being adjudged the club’s Most Improved Player (180 runs,12 wickets).
Travis Persaud – for being the Highest Runs Scorer (415), and the Best Fielder.
Prahalad Singh – for having the Best Strike Rate (139.6).
Abdul Razack – for being the Most Economical Bowler (3.5 runs per over).
Keshram Seyhodan – for having the Best Bowling Figures (5-34).
Daniel Basdeo – for taking the Most Wickets (24).
Special awards were given to: Trevor Lawrie, Troy Persaud, David Sears and Ravin Paramdeo for their dedication and hard work; Rameshwar Persaud (Award of Service); Timothy Jaikaran, Romario Samaroo and Fizool Deo (Award for journalists’ hard work in 2019); and Anand Sanasie, for his continuous efforts at improving the level of cricket in West Demerara.
