The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the National Sports Commission (NSC), in collaboration with the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), have announced the staging of the 2026 MCYS/NSC Independence Table Tennis Tournament later this week at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.
According to the GTTA, the tournament is scheduled to be played across five days, beginning on Friday, May 22, before continuing on Sunday, May 24, and then resuming on Friday, May 29; Saturday, May 30; and Sunday, May 31.

In a tournament announcement, the MCYS/NSC and the GTTA extended an invitation to all players and affiliates to participate in the competition as part of Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
The event is expected to attract a number of the country’s leading table tennis players while also providing a platform for emerging talents to compete in a national setting.
The Independence tournament forms part of a wider calendar of sporting activities being hosted nationwide to commemorate Guyana’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
