Mechanic released on $100,000 bail

A mechanic, of Litchfield Village, West Coast Berbice, Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), was on Tuesday released on $100,000 bail when he appeared in a New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on a possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking charge.

Owen Lewis, a 31-year-old mechanic, was arrested on Sunday, June 7 for being in possession of narcotics. Lewis appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh. The prosecution is contending that Police ranks, acting on information, intercepted a minibus at the Berbice River Bridge in which the man was a passenger. Upon conducting a search, the cops discovered the cannabis – some 5000 grams (five kilograms) – concealed in three wrapped plastic parcels. The case will continue on June 30, 2020.
