Meet rising Berbice star – Christopher Ramphal

Christopher Yuvraj Ramphal is an upcoming Berbician singer who has a passion for music and hopes one day to make it on the international stage. He is 19 years old and is the only child for his parents, Fiona and Rico. This talented youngster was born in Adelphi Village, East Canje, Berbice.
He grew up in Gangaram Settlement, East Canje, and attended the Gangaram Primary School.
He then moved to Skeldon on the Corentyne at the age of seven where he attended the Number 68 Primary School. There, he wrote the National Grade Six Assessment and was awarded a place at Tagore Memorial Secondary School.
After completing his secondary education, he worked as a welder for approximately eight months. He then landed a job at Nand Persaud and Company Limited where he is currently employed.
“Chrissy” as he is commonly called, started to sing gospel music in church at the age of 10. Being raised by East Indian parents, he always loved Indian music and regularly sang for himself. He even sang out load thus drawing people to his talent.
He was heard by a friend, Jesh Ramnannan, who motivated him to take up singing as a career. After a few conversations and motivational talks, he recorded his first song titled, “Tere Bin” at the BKVJ Studio. That song went viral on Youtube.
It was based on that video and his underlying talent, that MC Drew contacted and contracted him to perform at ‘Bacchanal in Berbice’ – a show which was held at the Number 6 Village, West Coast Berbice Play Park.
The experience was amazing and the young man plans to build on his solo performance.
He nevertheless, hopes to be among the big stars both regionally and internationally. In doing so, he plans to work harder in realising his dreams.
On that note, he urged young people to follow their dreams “no matter how hard it might seem and when you reach your goal, try to help others to achieve theirs”. On a lighter note, Ramphal’s favourite colour is purple and he enjoys playing volleyball and swimming during his leisure time.
The young man who indicated that he is single, thanked his mother, best friend Omesh along with Jesh Ramnanan, Avinash Sookraj and others who have been the driving forces behind him pursuing a musical career.
