Mendes carries narrow lead into 3rd Keep Fit Series race

Alex Mendes will enter the third meet of the Alex Mendes and Kaieteur Attack Racing Cycling Club Keep Fit Series with a slim one-point advantage when the action continues on Sunday at the inner circuit of the National Park.
The open event will begin at 10:00h and will feature 36 laps, with cyclists from all categories eligible to compete. Valuable points will again be available as the series, which began in July, moves closer to its conclusion later this month.
Mendes leads the overall standings with 12 points after producing consistent performances in the opening two races. He finished second in the 30-lap first meet to earn seven points before placing third over 36 laps in the second race for another five.
Aaron Newton is close behind on 11 points. He won the opening race in one hour, nine minutes and 22 seconds to collect 10 points but added only one point after finishing sixth in the second meet.

Robin Persaud occupies third position with 10 points following his victory in the second race, which was completed in one hour and 16 minutes. Segun Hubbard, who placed second in that contest, sits fourth overall with seven points.
Christopher Griffith holds fifth place on five points, while Andre Greene and Paul Choo-wee-nam have three points each. Geron William and Jaikarran Sukhai are tied on two points, with Julio Meville completing the standings on one.
In the opening race, Newton finished ahead of Mendes, Griffith, Choo-wee-nam, Sukhai and Meville. Persaud then claimed the second meet ahead of Hubbard, Mendes, Greene, William and Newton.
The same scoring system will be used on Sunday, with the winner receiving 10 points. Seven points will go to the runner-up, five to third place, three to fourth, two to fifth and one to sixth.
With only two points separating the leading three riders, Sunday’s contest could produce a major change at the top of the standings. Special prizes will be awarded to the top three overall cyclists when the series concludes.
