Miner arrested after discharging loaded firearm

Police have arrested a miner after he allegedly discharged a loaded firearm at Tamakay Backdam, Middle Mazaruni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
According to reports, the suspect of North Rupununi, Lethem, was employed at the mining camp of a Brazilian when at about 17:19h, while armed with a firearm, he discharged several rounds in the air causing persons at the camp to run for cover.
Following the incident, the owner of the camp made contact with someone he knew who is a licensed firearm holder at Tamakay Landing and related to him what had happened.
The camp owner’s friend and his friend, along with public-spirited citizens then proceeded to the Backdam where they apprehended the suspect.
Upon searching him, they found in his possession a black .32 pistol along with 50 matching rounds.
The Police were then summoned and ranks from the Enachu Police Station went to Tamakay and arrested the suspect. They also took possession of the firearm that was found in his possession.
Investigations are in progress.
