Miner beaten to death during argument

A miner was on Saturday beaten to death during an argument with another man at Quartzstone Landing, Cuyuni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
The dead man has been identified as Marlon Carter, 34, of Post Office Street, Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Police stated that the suspect, who is now on the run, and the now dead man had a misunderstanding during which, the suspect armed himself and inflicted the fatal injuries. Upon receipt of the report, ranks from the Bartica Police Station travelled to the area and upon their arrival, they observed Carter’s body lying on the riverbank clad in black and red boxer shorts.

The body was examined and there were lacerations to the head above the left ear, the left lower forearm, the forehead, wounds to the right ankle (almost severed), and burns to the chest area.
However, at the scene, the suspect’s brother who was wanted for a rape and robbery under arms matter reported in August 2021 handed over a 9mm pistol with the make and serial number filed off, which he claimed was the property of the now dead man. He was arrested and will be questioned on the allegation levelled against him.
Carter’s body was taken to Bartica then transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
