Miner charged for robbing man during fight

Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty on Friday granted a 23-year-old miner his pre-trial liberty after he pleaded not guilty to robbing a man during a physical altercation.

Charged: Donnel Todd

The defendant, Donnel Todd, denied that on January 30, 2020, at 111 Miles, Mahdia, Essequibo Magisterial District, he robbed Michael Peters of $5000.
Police Prosecutor Delon Sullivan in presenting facts told the court that on the day in question, the men were involved in a disagreement and Todd dealt the victim several cuffs about his body and took his money.
A police report was later made and the defendant was arrested. A search conducted on his person by Police officers revealed the cash in his possession.
Prosecutor Sullivan made objections to bail on the grounds of the prevalence of the offence and the penalty the charge attracts.
However, Magistrate McGusty declined the submission and released the defendant on $50,000 bail.
The matter was adjourned on February 3, 2020.
