A 20-year-old miner of Third Avenue, Bartica in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) has been stabbed to death during a drunken brawl with a colleague.
Reports are that Shemar Drakes was stabbed on Monday at about 01:30h at Suewanda Backdam, Upper Mazaruni. It has been revealed that at the time of the incident, Drakes and the suspect were both at a party at Suewanda Landing. Reports are that the men had earlier in the day been engaged in a heated argument over a woman, and a fight had ensued, but they were parted by persons in the area.
However, at the Suewanda Landing party, the suspect approached Drakes and an argument again ensued, during which the suspect dealt drakes a single stab to his lower abdomen, causing his intestines to protrude.
Drakes managed to run to a nearby shop, where he told the owner what had transpired before he collapsed and died.
His body was examined, and a single wound was seen to his lower abdomen. The body was later escorted to the Bartica Public Hospital.
Efforts to locate the suspect have so far been futile, Police say, as investigations continue. (G9)
