Minibus driver arrested at home after accident

Following an accident on Tuesday morning in the vicinity of Demico House, Brickdam, the driver of the minibus implicated was arrested at his home and was expected to make his appearance in court on Monday.
Twenty-five-year-old Francine Ramdass, a student of the ER Burrowes School of Art was reportedly struck down by the driver, whose name was given as Eugene while she was on the pedestrian crossing.
The injured student was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital by the driver, who subsequently fled the scene. Ramdass sustained several lacerations on her knee, arm and lips, and was currently suffering excruciating pain.
She told Guyana Times that she was on her way to class when the accident occurred. The student recalled that while she was partially conscious, the driver came out of his minibus and checked for damage before rendering any assistance to her.
Meanwhile, the injured young woman complained of the sloppy treatment she received at the country’s leading health institution.
Ramdass posited that she stood and waited for several minutes before being attended to, although she was in pain.
She added that when she finally got to see the doctor, the woman just looked at her and said she was “okay”.
The student further explained that she had to inform the doctor that her knee was hurting before she was examined.
Upon examining the young woman, the doctor reportedly took several pieces of gravel out of her knee.
Ramdass complained that her wounds were partially cleaned and were not dressed by the doctor, since there was no medical gauze or plasters. The student said she subsequently visited the Diamond hospital where the wounds were treated.
