A minibus driver was in the wee hours of Saturday killed after he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree at Bina Hill Public Road, North Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).
The dead man was identified as 48-year-old Lennox George of Annai Village, North Rupununi. Reports stated that the accident occurred at about 03:45h and involved minibus bearing registration number, BAB 4875 owned by the Annai Central Village Council.
At the time of the accident, there were two passengers in the minibus – 20-year-old Junliana Williams and her 6-year-old son, Julio Williams, both of Annai Village, North Rupununi.
Police investigations revealed that on the day in question, the minibus was proceeding along the Bina Hill Public Road at a fast rate of speed and ended up in a pothole.
The driver reportedly lost control of the minibus and as a result, it collided with a nearby tree on the grass parapet. The driver was pulled from the wreckage in an unconscious state while the two passengers were taken to the Annai Health Centre where they were treated.
Nevertheless, George was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to the Lethem Regional Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
